Brian McDowell

At a state wildlife research unit in Kansas City, Missouri, Brian McDowell studies freshwater fish populations and habitat conditions across regional waterways. He has worked in aquatic biology since 2018, focusing primarily on river ecosystems and native species health. McDowell completed his undergraduate studies in biology at Stony Brook University and later earned a master’s degree in fisheries science. In his current post, he coordinates seasonal stream surveys, tracking changes in fish abundance and examining specimens to detect early signs of disease. He also compiles population data for state conservation biologists managing local watersheds.
