Although higher-resolution models exist, they require immense computational power, making them impractical for real-time global forecasting. The Role of Data Aggregation and App Interpretation
Most consumer weather applications do not operate their own NWP models; instead, they act as data aggregators and interpreters. These apps pull their forecast information from a variety of sources, including major national meteorological agencies and private forecasting companies. Developers must choose which model, or combination of models, to prioritize for a given geographic region.
The app then applies its own proprietary algorithms to transform the raw model data into a user-friendly display.
