Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia remain major hubs, supplying fresh stalks for regional cuisine and dried material for export. Cultivation has also spread to the Americas, with Guatemala and Brazil emerging as major exporters. Ideal Climate and Soil Requirements
Lemongrass cultivation is controlled by its specific environmental needs and extreme sensitivity to cold. The plant requires consistently high heat, with optimal growth occurring between 25°C and 30°C (77°F and 86°F). As a tropical perennial, it demands full sun exposure, needing at least six hours of direct sunlight daily to develop robust stalks and maximize oil concentration. Exposure to temperatures below 10°C (50°F) stunts growth, and the plant is entirely intolerant of frost. Lemongrass also requires abundant moisture, mimicking the high rainfall and humidity of its native environment. The best substrate is a well-drained, rich, loamy soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Heavy clay or waterlogged conditions are detrimental, as they quickly lead to root rot.
Domestic Cultivation Considerations

In temperate and cooler climates, the plant is usually treated as an annual, thriving during the summer months but not surviving the winter outdoors. Winter Storage
