Tigers are large cats, recognized by their distinctive striped coats. They historically roamed diverse Asian landscapes, from cold forests to tropical jungles, grasslands, savannas, and mangrove swamps. Their diet primarily consists of large and medium-sized ungulates. Common prey includes various species of deer such as sambar, chital, and barasingha, as well as wild boar, gaur, and water buffalo. Tigers are opportunistic hunters and will also prey on smaller animals like monkeys, peafowl, and fish if larger prey is scarce. By preying on these herbivores, tigers play a significant role in regulating their populations within the ecosystem.
