The understory is home to a diverse range of animal life, including insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and some mammals. Many species display camouflage to blend into the dim, leafy surroundings, protecting them from predators or aiding in hunting. For example, tree snakes like the emerald tree boa are bright green to match the foliage, while some reptiles and insects mimic leaves or sticks. Amphibians like tree frogs thrive in the understory’s humidity, as their skin requires constant moisture to prevent drying out.
