Its purpose is to counteract the detrimental effects of extended bed rest, such as muscle weakness, joint stiffness, and impaired circulation. The Ambulation Process

Initial steps are short distances, with duration and distance gradually increasing based on the patient’s tolerance and progress. The healthcare professional maintains a secure hold, with a gait belt, and is prepared to intervene quickly if the patient shows signs of instability.
