Provitalize contains three probiotic strains, five herbal extracts, and one absorption-boosting compound. Made by Better Body Co. and marketed primarily toward women experiencing menopause, each two-capsule serving delivers 68.2 billion colony-forming units (CFU) of probiotics alongside turmeric, moringa, curry leaf, and several supporting ingredients.
The Three Probiotic Strains
The core of Provitalize is a probiotic blend containing three bacterial strains, totaling 68.2 billion CFU per serving:
- L. gasseri SBT-2055: This is the most heavily researched strain in the formula. In animal studies, it reduced body weight gain and fat accumulation while lowering the activity of inflammation-promoting genes in fat tissue. Researchers have suggested that calming inflammation in fat tissue may be one way this strain influences body composition, and it also appeared to reduce triglyceride levels and the expression of fat-producing genes in the liver.
- B. breve IDCC-4401: A strain from the Bifidobacterium family. Related strains of B. breve have been studied for their ability to support early gut colonization and help regulate immune balance, particularly by dialing down inflammatory signaling pathways. Research on a closely related B. breve strain showed it could reduce the production of several inflammatory molecules in intestinal cells.
- B. lactis R101-8: A Bifidobacterium strain commonly used in probiotic supplements for general digestive and immune support.
The capsules use delayed-release technology designed to protect probiotics from stomach acid. This type of capsule has been shown to significantly improve bacterial survival through the digestive tract compared to standard capsules, allowing more live organisms to reach the intestines where they can actually colonize.
Turmeric Root Extract: 350 mg
Provitalize includes 350 mg of turmeric root extract standardized to 95% curcuminoids, the active compounds responsible for turmeric’s anti-inflammatory effects. Curcuminoids are notoriously difficult for the body to absorb on their own. The formula addresses this in two ways: the turmeric is formulated with enhanced absorption technology, and the capsule also contains BioPerine (black pepper extract), which has been shown to increase curcumin absorption by 2,000% in humans when the two are taken together.
That 2,000% figure comes from a well-known pharmacokinetic study measuring blood levels of curcumin 45 minutes after ingestion. Piperine, the active compound in black pepper, slows the liver’s breakdown of curcumin, keeping it circulating in the bloodstream longer.
Moringa Leaf: 350 mg
Moringa is a nutrient-dense plant traditionally used in South Asian medicine. In a study of postmenopausal women who took moringa leaf powder daily for three months, researchers observed a significant drop in fasting blood sugar levels and an increase in hemoglobin. The supplement also boosted several markers of antioxidant defense: the body’s natural antioxidant enzymes increased by 10 to 18%, while a key marker of oxidative stress (cellular damage from free radicals) dropped by about 16%. Moringa is rich in vitamins A and C, iron, and calcium, which partly explains these effects.
Curry Leaf and Other Herbal Extracts
The remaining herbal ingredients round out the formula at lower doses:
- Curry leaf (150 mg): Used in traditional medicine for blood sugar management and digestive support. Curry leaves contain compounds with antioxidant properties.
- Helichrysum italicum (150 mg): Sometimes called the “immortelle” or “everlasting” flower, this Mediterranean plant has a long history in traditional European herbalism. It contains flavonoids with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
- Sunflower lecithin (50 mg): A fat-based emulsifier included to help the body absorb the fat-soluble ingredients in the formula, particularly the curcuminoids from turmeric. Unlike soy lecithin, sunflower lecithin is not a common allergen.
- BioPerine black pepper extract (3 mg): A patented form of piperine that serves as an absorption enhancer for the other ingredients, especially turmeric.
What the Research Does and Doesn’t Show
Individual ingredients in Provitalize have varying levels of scientific support. L. gasseri SBT-2055 and turmeric extract have the strongest research behind them, though most studies were conducted in animals or used doses and forms that may differ from what’s in this product. Moringa has promising data in postmenopausal women specifically, but from small studies.
Better Body Co. registered a randomized controlled trial on ClinicalTrials.gov to test the full Provitalize formula for menopause symptoms. The study is listed as completed, but no results have been published. This means there is currently no peer-reviewed clinical evidence on the specific combination of ingredients in Provitalize taken together.
Safety Considerations
Because Provitalize contains turmeric with a black pepper absorption booster, the curcumin reaches the bloodstream at much higher levels than it would from food. A case report published in the ACG Case Reports Journal documented acute liver failure in a patient taking a menopausal supplement containing turmeric, piperine, moringa, and curry leaf, ingredients that overlap with Provitalize’s formula. The authors noted that the combined effects of these ingredients on the liver have not been well studied and that no prior liver injury from this supplement had been reported in toxicology databases.
Turmeric and black pepper can also interact with blood-thinning medications by affecting how the liver processes certain drugs. The sunflower lecithin and moringa are generally well tolerated. Provitalize is manufactured in what Better Body Co. describes as an FDA-registered, GMP-certified facility, though the product itself is not FDA-approved, as is standard for dietary supplements in the United States.
