Instead, the material is identified as a peralkaline igneous rock, such as Rhyolite or microgranite. The light-colored base rock primarily includes microcrystalline quartz and various feldspars. This composition contributes to its moderate durability, registering between 6.5 and 7 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. The stone is predominantly composed of silicon dioxide (\(SiO_2\)), but its overall structure places it in the igneous rock family.
Distinctive Physical Characteristics

The most prolific commercial source for Dalmatian Jasper is the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. While deposits are reported in other regions where Rhyolite and similar igneous rock formations are common, the Mexican material is the most prevalent in the global gemstone market. The stone’s formation environment is characterized by the presence of peralkaline rocks, which are rich in alkali elements.
