These two common forms are Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP) and Diammonium Phosphate (DAP). MAP is created when the reactants are combined in a one-to-one molar ratio, resulting in the chemical formula NH4H2PO4. In contrast, DAP is produced with a higher proportion of ammonia, yielding the formula (NH4)2HPO4. This structural difference leads to a significant divergence in their pH when dissolved in water. The acid acts as a catalyst, promoting the dehydration and charring of the material instead of its combustion.
