Becoming an MLT typically requires an associate degree that combines general education, science coursework, and hands-on medical laboratory science courses. Program quality matters. Certification

MLTs specifically tend to fall on the lower end of that range; in a market like New York, for example, the median for laboratory technicians is roughly $47,200, with averages closer to $51,000.
Demand for lab professionals remains strong.
