What Spiders Primarily Hunt

Once prey is captured, spiders use fangs to inject venom, which works like a hypodermic needle. This venom contains neurotoxins that paralyze or kill the prey by interfering with its nervous system and muscle function. It also often contains digestive enzymes that begin to liquefy the prey’s internal organs. This external digestion allows the spider to consume the liquefied contents, leaving behind the exoskeleton. Some web-building spiders may also wrap their prey in silk, either before or after injecting venom, further subduing the victim for later consumption.
