This can rapidly decompose the stump from the inside out, sometimes within one to two years.

It is important to ensure a drainage hole is established at the base of the cavity to prevent root rot from standing water.

If the wood is still relatively solid, treating it with a weather-resistant sealant will preserve its integrity and protect it from further decay.
