The oleaster tree, scientifically known as Elaeagnus angustifolia, is a distinctive plant recognized for its silvery foliage and hardy nature. Despite its benefits, the oleaster tree requires careful management, especially where it can become invasive. Its hardiness, rapid growth, and prolific seed production (often bird-dispersed) contribute to its aggressive spread, outcompeting native vegetation. In some areas, like parts of the western United States, it is considered a noxious weed, and its planting may be prohibited. Management often focuses on preventing establishment, as controlling large stands can be challenging.
