This involves solution heat treatment, where the alloy is heated to dissolve the alloying elements, followed by quenching and artificial aging.

Artificial aging forms uniform precipitates, enhancing mechanical properties. In the T6 temper, 6061 aluminum exhibits an ultimate tensile strength of 45,000 psi (310 MPa) and a yield strength of 40,000 psi (276 MPa). These values highlight its strength for a lightweight material.
