Hydrogen solubility in water refers to the ability of hydrogen gas (H₂) to dissolve within liquid water (H₂O). This is a physical process, where H₂ molecules exist independently within the water structure, unlike chemical reactions that form water. Understanding this concept is fundamental in chemistry, as it influences natural processes and technological advancements.

What Hydrogen Solubility Means

This phenomenon is known as the “salting-out” effect, where dissolved salts reduce the solubility of gases like hydrogen. Ions from the dissolved salts interact with water molecules, effectively reducing the number of water molecules available to solvate the hydrogen gas, thereby decreasing its solubility.
