How to Use and Manage Your Target Gift Card

A Target Gift Card offers a convenient way to shop at Target stores and online. It functions as a prepaid payment method, allowing users to purchase items. This simplifies transactions by eliminating the need for cash or traditional credit/debit cards for purchases within the Target ecosystem.

How to Use Your Target Gift Card

Using a Target Gift Card is straightforward, whether shopping in-store or online. For in-store redemption, present the physical gift card to the cashier at checkout. The cashier scans the barcode on the back to apply its value. If you have a digital gift card, such as one received via email or text, you can access it through the Target App’s Wallet tab for scanning at the register.

When shopping on Target.com or within the Target app, enter the card details during checkout. You need to input the 15-digit gift card number and the 8-digit access number (PIN), found by scratching off a silver strip on the back of a physical card. For digital gift cards, these numbers are provided within the email or text message. Target.com allows you to use up to 10 Target Gift Cards per online order, and the gift card balance is applied before any other payment method.

Buying and Managing Target Gift Cards

Target Gift Cards can be purchased in several convenient ways. Physical gift cards are available at any Target store, with values ranging from $5 to $500. Both physical and eGift cards can also be purchased online at Target.com or through the Target app, allowing selection of specific denominations or custom values between $5 and $500.

Beyond Target’s own channels, these gift cards are also available at over 30,000 third-party retailers nationwide, including various grocery stores and pharmacies like Kroger, Albertsons, CVS Pharmacy, and Walgreens. These external retailers may offer specific denominations such as $25, $50, or $100, or open denomination cards up to $500. When purchasing online, you can have a physical card mailed (typically arriving within 7-10 days) or opt for an eGift card delivered via email (often within four hours or scheduled for future delivery).

Checking the balance of a Target Gift Card is simple and can be done through multiple methods.

  • Visit the Target website’s gift card balance page and enter the 15-digit card number and the 8-digit access number.
  • Call the Target Gift Card customer support line at 1-800-544-2943 for an automated balance and last five transactions.
  • Visit any Target store’s customer service desk.
  • Scan the card at a checkout register.

Target Gift Cards do not expire and do not lose value over time, even if an expiration date is printed on the card. If a gift card is lost or stolen, contact the Target GiftCard team at 1-800-544-2943 for a replacement. The original purchase receipt or gift card number is needed for this process. Target Gift Cards are generally not reloadable; a new card must be purchased once the value is depleted.
