Homemade bone meal transforms kitchen scraps into a valuable, slow-release organic fertilizer. Using readily available chicken bones offers an excellent source of two primary nutrients: phosphorus and calcium. Bone meal is highly valued in gardening for its ability to promote strong root development and abundant flowering in plants. Preparing Chicken Bones for Processing

Thorough cleaning ensures the final product is sanitary and stores well. You must remove all traces of meat, fat, and connective tissue from the bones, as any residue can lead to a rancid smell and attract pests when applied to the garden. To sanitize and soften the bones, place them in a pot and boil them vigorously for at least 20 to 30 minutes.
