Its glossy, lobed leaves and cascading nature make it a favored choice for adding greenery to interior spaces. Although ivy is known for its hardiness, maintaining a thriving indoor plant requires specific environmental conditions and consistent care.

Ivy plants perform best when placed in bright, indirect light conditions, which encourages dense, healthy foliage growth. The light requirements vary slightly depending on the leaf coloration of the specific cultivar. Solid green varieties are more tolerant of lower light levels, though their growth rate may slow down significantly in dim areas.

Variegated ivies, which feature patterns of white, cream, or yellow, require brighter light to maintain their distinct coloring. Since these lighter sections lack chlorophyll, they are more susceptible to sun damage, so direct, harsh sunlight must be avoided to prevent scorching the foliage. Ideal placement is near a north, east, or west-facing window, or several feet away from a sunny south-facing window, ensuring the light is filtered.

Upon identifying spider mites, immediately isolate the plant to prevent spreading the pest. The most effective initial treatment involves physically washing the foliage, using a strong jet of room-temperature water to dislodge the mites and eggs from the undersides of the leaves. Follow-up treatment involves applying an insecticidal soap or neem oil solution, ensuring thorough coverage every five to seven days until the pests are eliminated.

Many other health issues stem from incorrect environmental conditions rather than disease. Crispy, brown edges on the leaves typically indicate low humidity and under-watering.
