Cat scratches are common for pet owners, leaving linear marks that vary from faint lines to raised, sometimes pigmented, tissue. Scarring is the natural result of the body’s repair process following a skin injury. This involves the production of collagen fibers to bridge the wound, which can lead to a noticeable mark.

Immediate Wound Care to Minimize Scarring

Non-Invasive Home Treatments for Existing Scars

Once the cat scratch is fully closed and past the initial healing phase (typically several weeks), non-invasive treatments can begin. Silicone sheets and gels are the first-line, non-surgical treatment for raised scars. These products create an occlusive barrier over the scar, increasing hydration in the upper skin layer and helping regulate excessive collagen production.

Silicone should be worn for 12 to 23 hours per day for at least three months to achieve the best results, including softening and flattening the scar tissue.
