The jalapeño has an indeterminate growth habit, meaning it continues to grow and produce flowers and fruit until stopped by environmental changes, such as the first frost. This continuous growth contributes to its final height, especially in regions with longer growing seasons. They usually require about 60 to 80 days from transplanting to begin producing harvestable peppers.
A mature plant also has a significant spread, often reaching 18 to 24 inches wide. While height is a common focus, width is equally important for determining proper spacing to ensure adequate air circulation and light exposure. The final size of any individual plant is heavily influenced by external factors.
