Tap water often contains dissolved salts and minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, which contribute to hardness. Letting tap water sit for 24 hours can help dissipate chlorine, but it will not remove chloramine or hard mineral salts. Using rainwater, distilled water, or reverse osmosis (RO) water is beneficial because these sources contain few dissolved solids, minimizing the risk of salt accumulation.
