The collector market places a high premium on visual perfection and rarity, leading to a much higher per-unit value for select pieces. While rough chunks might be purchased for $1 to $2 per pound, finely crystallized specimens can easily fetch $10 to $50 or more each. Museum-quality or large, pristine crystals can command hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

Factors Determining Specimen Price

The price of pyrite for collectors is driven by its aesthetic quality, not material content. The most important factor is the crystal habit, referring to the shape and perfection of the crystals.
