The Healing Journey

Stretch marks, or striae, are another form of scarring that occur when the skin stretches rapidly, causing tears in the dermis, initially appearing reddish or purple before fading to a lighter, silvery color.
Supporting the Healing Process
Promoting optimal scar healing and improving its final appearance involves several proactive steps. Keeping the wound clean is crucial to prevent infection. Gently washing the area with mild soap and water helps remove germs and debris. Maintaining a moist wound environment, often with petroleum jelly or specialized dressings, can prevent scab formation and support faster healing.
Adequate hydration and nutrition, particularly protein and vitamins, support tissue repair throughout the healing process. Protecting new scars from sun exposure is also essential, as UV radiation can cause discoloration and make the scar more noticeable. Applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher is recommended.
