The Duration of Incubation and Parental Roles
The typical incubation period for American Robin eggs is approximately 12 to 14 days, measured from when the female begins sitting consistently on the clutch. The female is almost solely responsible for this sustained warmth, using a specialized featherless area called a brood patch to transfer heat to the eggs. She begins incubation only after the final egg is laid, ensuring all the young hatch almost simultaneously.
