Fescues, including fine and tall varieties, follow a moderate timeline, typically requiring 7 to 15 days to sprout under optimal conditions. This slightly longer window allows the seed to develop a stronger root system before allocating energy to above-ground growth.
Kentucky bluegrass is the slowest of the common cool-season grasses to germinate, often taking between 14 and 30 days for seedlings to appear. Because of this extended waiting period, correct planting timing is important to ensure the new grass establishes before seasonal temperature extremes arrive.
