Understanding Transmission Pathways
Hepatitis B is primarily transmitted when infected blood, semen, or other body fluids enter the body of an uninfected person. Proper cleaning and disinfection of surfaces contaminated with blood or other body fluids are important. Solutions such as a mixture of 1 part bleach to 9 parts water are effective at inactivating the Hepatitis B virus on hard surfaces. Other effective disinfectants include hydrogen peroxide and quaternary ammonium compounds.
