Many experts indicate that relief from Epsom salt soaks might largely stem from the warm water itself, which can relax muscles and improve circulation. Therefore, while Epsom salt baths may offer temporary comfort and relaxation, they are generally considered a complementary approach rather than a primary treatment for the underlying inflammation of plantar fasciitis.

How to Use Epsom Salt for Foot Soaks

To use an Epsom salt foot soak, begin by filling a basin or tub with warm water, deep enough to cover your feet. The water temperature should be warm but not uncomfortably hot, with 92°F to 100°F (33°C to 37°C) often suggested for soothing soreness.

Add about 1/2 cup of Epsom salt, or 1 cup per gallon, stirring until dissolved. Soak your feet for 15 to 30 minutes. After soaking, moisturize your feet, as Epsom salt can cause dryness. While Epsom salt foot soaks offer temporary relief, they are not a cure for plantar fasciitis.
