For frequent swimmers, using waterproof earplugs or a swim cap provides a physical barrier against water entry. Another preventative measure is avoiding the insertion of objects like cotton swabs or fingers into the ear canal. These objects can scratch the delicate skin lining or push protective earwax deeper, increasing the risk of infection.
