This characteristic indicates that while it lacks inherent planes of weakness, it can still break if subjected to sufficient force. Furthermore, hematite is brittle, meaning it will shatter or break rather than deform under stress.

Preventing Damage to Hematite

Given hematite’s moderate hardness and brittle nature, preventative measures help maintain its integrity and appearance. Protecting hematite from impact is important, as sudden drops or collisions can easily cause it to chip or fracture due to its brittleness.
