A medium-sized Americano commonly contains two shots of espresso, resulting in a total of about 5 to 10 calories. While the volume of hot water expands the beverage size, it does not contribute to the final energy count.

The Impact of Common Additions

The low-calorie nature of the Americano changes significantly once milk, sweeteners, or flavorings are introduced. A medium-sized Latte or Cappuccino relies on a much higher ratio of steamed milk and can contain anywhere from 120 to over 200 calories, depending on the milk fat content. The mocha is often the highest-calorie option, as it includes milk and chocolate syrup, frequently pushing its total caloric count past 300. For individuals monitoring their energy intake, the Americano is often the preferred choice.
