This crucial stage is identifiable when the hairy, protective sepal, or casing, surrounding the petals shows a tiny sliver of the flower’s color peeking through the crack. Harvesting at this moment ensures the bud will still open in the vase, offering the longest possible display time. For the physical cut, use a clean, sharp tool to slice the stem at an angle, which maximizes the surface area for water uptake.
