Non-surgical approaches focus on pain management and improving joint function. Pain medications, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), are commonly prescribed to reduce inflammation and alleviate discomfort. Other pain relievers may be used in conjunction with NSAIDs or as alternatives for long-term management.

Joint supplements containing ingredients like glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are recommended to support cartilage health and slow the progression of joint degeneration. Maintaining an ideal body weight is important, as excess weight places additional stress on compromised joints, exacerbating pain and accelerating wear.
