While many people reach for sugary sodas or juices, choosing water provides both immediate relief and significant long-term health benefits, making it the superior companion to any alcoholic drink.

The Essential Link Between Alcohol and Dehydration

Alcohol is a diuretic, meaning it increases the rate of urination, leading to a net loss of fluid. This effect is driven by alcohol’s action on the pituitary gland, where it suppresses the release of vasopressin, also known as antidiuretic hormone (ADH). Vasopressin normally signals the kidneys to reabsorb water back into the bloodstream, maintaining fluid balance.
When this hormone is inhibited, the kidneys send water directly to the bladder instead of conserving it, which is why frequent bathroom trips occur when drinking.
