While the typical implantation window closes around 12 DPO, it is biologically possible, though less common, for implantation to occur at 15 DPO. This is considered a late implantation, meaning the fertilized egg took longer than average to embed into the uterine lining.
When implantation happens later, such as at 15 DPO, it can delay the production and rise of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), the hormone detected by pregnancy tests. Consequently, a pregnancy test taken at 15 DPO might still yield a negative result even if late implantation has occurred. Despite its rarity, successful pregnancies can still result from late implantation.

Several biological factors can influence implantation timing, causing variations in the typical 6-12 DPO window. Ovulation timing itself can fluctuate, impacting when the egg is available for fertilization. If ovulation occurs later in a cycle, the entire timeline, including fertilization and implantation, shifts.
The journey of the fertilized egg, or blastocyst, from the fallopian tube to the uterus also plays a role; its development rate affects when it is ready to implant. What to Do at 15 DPO
At 15 DPO, if you have not yet received a positive pregnancy test, patience is often advised. Home pregnancy tests detect hCG, which begins to be produced only after implantation occurs. If implantation happened later, hCG levels might not yet be high enough for a home test to detect. Many tests are most accurate after a missed period, which for many women with a regular cycle, aligns with 14 DPO or later.
If your 15 DPO test is negative but your period has not started, consider retesting in a few days.
