Slowed motility results in hard, dry stool (constipation), while stress can also accelerate motility, causing diarrhea. Both extremes increase pressure and irritation in the anal region, contributing to the formation or flare-up of hemorrhoids.

Managing the anxiety-hemorrhoid cycle requires an integrated approach that addresses both psychological and physical components. To reduce the systemic tension caused by anxiety, incorporating stress management techniques is beneficial. Practices such as mindfulness meditation, deep-breathing exercises, and yoga help calm the nervous system and reduce the chronic activation of the HPA axis.

Dietary and lifestyle adjustments are essential for preventing the physical act of straining. This includes consistently consuming a fiber-rich diet from fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to ensure soft, easy-to-pass stools. Maintaining adequate hydration is equally important, as water helps fiber work effectively to prevent constipation.
