Similarly, in carbon-oxygen (C-O) bonds, oxygen draws electron density, creating partial charges.
The arrangement of these multiple polar hydroxyl groups throughout the molecule, and its asymmetrical shape, prevents individual bond dipoles from canceling. This results in a net dipole moment for the entire sugar molecule, making it polar.
