This condition can lead to eye redness, a feeling of grittiness, and watery discharge.
Other ocular symptoms include eye pain, which may be accompanied by light sensitivity. Some individuals might also experience dry eyes, blurred vision, or swelling around the eyes. These eye symptoms usually appear alongside typical COVID-19 indicators, such as fever, cough, or respiratory issues. While eye symptoms can sometimes be the first or even only presenting sign of COVID-19, this is rare.
Distinguishing Itchy Eyes from Other Conditions
Itchy eyes are a common complaint with numerous causes unrelated to COVID-19. Allergies are a frequent culprit, often presenting with red, watery, and itchy eyes, usually accompanied by sneezing or a runny nose. Dry eye syndrome is another common condition, where eyes may feel itchy, gritty, burning, or sensitive to light due to insufficient tears.
