Other potential effects include a slower heart rate (bradycardia) and cold hands or feet, especially with beta-blockers.

It is important for individuals taking these medications to be under medical supervision. Abruptly stopping these drugs, especially beta-blockers, can lead to serious consequences like a sharp increase in heart rate or blood pressure, or worsening of existing heart conditions. Healthcare providers advise gradual dosage reduction when discontinuing.

Certain medical conditions necessitate caution or may contraindicate the use of antiadrenergic drugs. For example, beta-blockers can worsen breathing difficulties in individuals with asthma or other respiratory conditions by causing airway constriction. They should be used carefully in patients with certain heart rhythm problems or low heart rates. Individuals with diabetes need close monitoring, as beta-blockers can mask some of the symptoms of low blood sugar, such as a rapid heartbeat.
