This extensive field of view and acute motion detection allow them to spot prey from a considerable distance and intercept them mid-flight with high accuracy.

They are often seen as messengers from the spirit world, embodying wisdom, good luck, and protection. In Japanese culture, the dragonfly, “tombo,” carries deep historical and symbolic significance. It represents courage, strength, agility, and victory, earning the nickname “kachi-mushi” or “victory insect.” Ancient Japan was referred to as “Akitsushima,” or “Dragonfly Island,” due to their abundance. Conversely, European folklore often presents dragonflies with negative associations.
