Recycling and Environmental Impact
Both HDPE and LDPE are widely recyclable plastics, contributing to material recovery. HDPE is identified by the recycling symbol #2, indicating its high density. It is often reprocessed into new bottles, pipes, plastic lumber, and outdoor furniture. The recycling process usually involves sorting, cleaning, shredding, melting, and extruding the material into pellets.
LDPE carries the recycling symbol #4, denoting its low density. While it is technically recyclable, its collection and processing can be more challenging than HDPE due to its flexible film nature, which can tangle machinery.
