Dietary modifications are an approach, focusing on balanced nutrition, appropriate portion control, and limiting foods that cause rapid blood sugar spikes. Regular physical activity, as recommended by a healthcare provider, also helps manage blood sugar.

Glucose monitoring is a routine part of management, allowing individuals to track their blood sugar levels throughout the day. In some cases, if lifestyle changes are not sufficient to control blood sugar, medication such as insulin may be prescribed to maintain healthy glucose levels. For prevention, particularly for those with genetic predispositions or other risk factors, pre-conception health is important. This includes maintaining a healthy weight before pregnancy and adopting an active lifestyle, which can mitigate the risk of developing gestational diabetes.
