Above-ground signs include stunted growth, yellowing leaves, or a complete failure of the plant to sprout. These symptoms can manifest both before and after the bulbs are planted. Bulb rot is caused by the proliferation of fungal or bacterial pathogens within the bulb tissue.

Watering practices are important; allow the soil to dry out between waterings, especially after flowering. During dormancy, store bulbs in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated location to prevent rot.
