Distinctive Features of the Jacaranda Tree

The Jacaranda tree (Jacaranda mimosifolia) has several distinctive features. Its foliage consists of large, fern-like, bipinnate leaves, typically 12 to 18 inches long, composed of numerous small leaflets that give it a delicate, airy appearance. These bright green leaves often turn yellow before dropping in late winter or early spring, preceding the bloom season. The bark is thin and gray-brown, starting smooth on young trees and developing a finely scaly texture as it matures.

Its trumpet-shaped flowers are typically lavender to violet-purple, though white cultivars exist.
