Generally, smaller birds tend to have shorter incubation periods compared to larger birds, though exceptions exist. Many small songbirds, such as warblers, finches, and sparrows, typically hatch within 10 to 14 days.
A domestic chicken egg requires approximately 21 days to hatch. American robins typically incubate for 12 to 14 days, with the female usually performing most of this task. Duck eggs generally take about 28 days, though Muscovy ducks incubate for around 35 days.
Pigeons usually incubate their eggs for 17 to 19 days, often with both parents sharing duties. Larger birds, such as the Bald Eagle, have longer incubation periods, around 35 days. At the extreme end, the Laysan Albatross can incubate for about 66 days, while the Megapode has a recorded incubation period of up to 90 days.
Factors Influencing Hatch Time

Parental attentiveness, meaning how consistently the parent bird sits on the eggs, also impacts hatch time. Females spending more time on the nest, particularly in species where one parent primarily incubates, can maintain a more stable egg temperature, potentially leading to a more consistent and shorter incubation duration.
Egg size is another factor; larger eggs generally require a longer incubation time. This is partly because they contain more material for development and can be more challenging to maintain at an even temperature.
