This test can be performed immediately after birth, as soon as a DNA sample can be safely collected from the infant. The collected cheek cells contain DNA necessary for comparison. While buccal swabs are the most common and convenient sample type, other biological samples like blood can also be used for DNA extraction. Its simplicity and safety make it the most frequent choice for post-birth paternity testing.

Accuracy and Reliability

Modern DNA paternity tests are recognized for their precision in establishing biological relationships. These tests achieve very high accuracy rates, with a probability of paternity reported as 99.9% or greater for inclusion. If a man is not the biological father, the test provides a 0% probability, indicating complete exclusion.
