What Causes Hidden Hunger?

This involves adding micronutrients like iron, iodine, and folic acid to commonly consumed staple foods such as salt, flour, and cooking oil. This method allows for the delivery of these nutrients to a large portion of the population without requiring significant changes in dietary habits.

Dietary diversification is another approach that encourages consuming a wide variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, and animal products. When dietary changes are not sufficient, supplementation provides micronutrients in pills, syrups, or powders, often for high-risk groups. A newer strategy, biofortification, involves breeding or genetically engineering crops to have a higher micronutrient content, offering a sustainable way to improve staple foods.
