Dehydration, often linked to high temperatures, can cause stomach discomfort. A lack of water can also reduce blood flow to the intestines, hindering the absorption of nutrients and waste management. Beyond abdominal discomfort, heat-related illness signs include excessive sweating, fatigue, dizziness, headache, and muscle cramps. The skin might appear cool and clammy with heat exhaustion, while in heatstroke, it can become hot and dry.
Changes in mental state, such as confusion, irritability, or disorientation, are serious indicators of developing heatstroke and require immediate attention. Other severe symptoms include a rapid heartbeat, rapid breathing, and a very high body temperature. If stomach pain is persistent, severe, or accompanied by vomiting that prevents fluid intake, medical evaluation is advised.
Call emergency services immediately if someone exhibits signs of heatstroke: a very high temperature, hot skin that is not sweating, confusion, seizures, or loss of consciousness. While waiting for emergency assistance, move the individual to a cooler place, remove excess clothing, and cool them with water or ice packs. Prompt action helps prevent serious complications.
